Local SEO for Long Beach and the Cities Next Door
Local SEO in Long Beach and the cities around it isn’t one-size-fits-all. I work in five cities, and each one searches a little differently. Here’s what matters in each, and what I focus on to get you into Google’s top 3.
Why Every City Needs Its Own Plan
Google doesn’t rank businesses city by city like a phone book. It looks at what someone searched, how close they are, and who looks the most trustworthy. That plays out differently in every one of these cities.
Long Beach
A big city where rankings change by neighborhood.
Long Beach is the second-biggest city in LA County, and Google treats it like a dozen little markets. You can be top 3 in Bixby Knolls and nowhere two miles away in Belmont Shore, because Google weighs how close you are to the person searching.
The goal here isn’t ranking in one spot. It’s widening the circle where you show up, one neighborhood at a time.
Long Beach is also where I’m proving this on myself. Here’s the page I built to rank for the ultimate SEO agency in Long Beach, CA.
What Matters Here
- A profile strong enough to show up beyond your own block
- Website pages for the neighborhoods you actually work in
- Getting the Signal Hill line right, since it’s a separate city inside Long Beach
Areas
- Downtown
- Belmont Shore
- Naples
- Bixby Knolls
- California Heights
- Los Altos
- North Long Beach
Lakewood
A city of homeowners whose houses need work.
Lakewood went up almost all at once in the early 1950s, around 17,500 houses in a few years, and about 7 in 10 homes are lived in by their owners. That means steady demand for roofers, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC pros, from customers who want someone local they can trust.
The catch: Long Beach wraps around Lakewood’s west and south sides, with Bellflower and Cerritos to the north. Their businesses show up in Lakewood searches too.
What Matters Here
- Making it obvious you’re a Lakewood business serving Lakewood homes
- Real photos and reviews from local jobs
- Keeping Lakewood Village straight, since it’s actually part of Long Beach
Areas
- Mayfair
- Lakewood Mutuals
- Carson Park
- Around Lakewood Center
- East of the 605
Bellflower
Renters, landlords, and customers who search in two languages.
About 6 in 10 homes in Bellflower are rented, so a lot of repair searches come from landlords, property managers, and tenants who need it fixed today. More than half the city is Hispanic or Latino, and plenty of customers search in Spanish, English, or both.
A shop on Bellflower Boulevard and a plumber who drives all over town need different setups. Same city, different game.
What Matters Here
- Describing your services the way your customers actually search, in English and Spanish
- A fast, reliable first impression for landlords and property managers
- Showing up in Bellflower before Downey, Paramount, and Norwalk businesses do
Areas
- Bellflower Boulevard
- Alondra Boulevard
- Artesia Boulevard
- Somerset Boulevard
- Town Square
Cerritos
Careful customers who compare everything.
About 3 in 4 Cerritos homes are owner-occupied, incomes are among the highest around, and customers do their homework. They compare reviews and photos before they call anyone. The top 3 gets you on the shortlist. Looking like the best choice gets you the call.
Cerritos also sits right on the Orange County line, so Buena Park and La Palma businesses compete for the same searches.
What Matters Here
- A steady stream of recent reviews, with a thoughtful reply to every one
- A complete, polished profile that holds up to a close look
- Being clearly tied to Cerritos, not just somewhere nearby
Areas
- Los Cerritos Center
- Cerritos Towne Center
- Cerritos Auto Square
- Heritage Park
Seal Beach
A small city where you have to rank past the city limits.
About 25,000 people live in Seal Beach, and a big part of its land is a naval base. It’s the only Orange County city I serve, so a Seal Beach business needs to show up in Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Huntington Beach, and next-door Long Beach too.
Many customers here, including plenty in the Leisure World 55-and-over community, would rather call than fill out a form.
What Matters Here
- A service area that covers where you really work
- Pages and reviews from the towns around you
- One-tap calling, exact hours, and someone who answers
Areas
- Old Town
- Main Street
- Leisure World
- College Park East
- College Park West
- Surfside
Five cities, five different searches. One goal: the top 3.
FAQ
Do you only work in these five cities?
Yes. I only take clients in Long Beach, Lakewood, Bellflower, Cerritos, and Seal Beach. Staying local is how I know these searches and these customers.
Can I rank in a city next to mine?
Yes, if it’s set up right. Your service area, your website, and your reviews all need to show real work in that city. Google won’t just take your word for it.
Is Signal Hill part of Long Beach?
No. It’s a separate city surrounded by Long Beach. If you’re near the line, I make sure your address and service area are set up so Google doesn’t mix the two up.
Is Seal Beach in Orange County or LA County?
Orange County. It’s right on the line with Long Beach, which matters because nearby customers search across both counties.
